Salbutamol (Ventorlin – Asthalin) 4 mg tabs is a short-acting, selective beta2-adrenergic receptor agonist used to manage breathing problems caused by asthma. It is a bronchodilator that helps treat asthma or chest illnesses by relaxing the lung airways, relieving chest tightness, wheezing, and coughing in order to breathe more easily.
Salbutamol is generally used for acute episodes of bronchospasm caused by bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, and other chronic bronchopulmonary disorders such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD).

How To Take Salbutamol (Ventorlin – Asthalin) 4 mg Tabs
Salbutamol is available in regular tablets, extended-release tablets and syrup.
If you are taking the extended-release type of tablet (usually labeled as “XL” or “ER”), swallow it whole. Do not divide, chew or crush the tablet.
Take Salbutamol exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Dosage of Salbutamol (Ventorlin – Asthalin) 4 mg Tabs
Acute bronchospasm: 2-4 mg 3-4 times/day, up to 8 mg 3-4 times/day. As modified-release tab: 8 mg twice a day.
Missed Salbutamol (Ventorlin – Asthalin) 4 mg Tabs
If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your usual dosing schedule.
Do not double a dose under any circumstances.
Overdose
Signs of overdose may include the following:
- Tachycardia
- Central nervous system stimulation
- Tremor
- Hypokalemia
- Hyperglycemia
- Lactic acidosis
- Nausea
- Vomiting
Seek medical help immediately.
Contraindications
People with the following medical conditions should not take Salbutamol:
- Pre-existing or risk factors for ischemic heart disease
- Gestational age <22 weeks
- Severe toxemia
- Intrauterine infection
- Vagina bleeding resulting from placenta praevia
- Eclampsia or severe preeclampsia
- Placental abruption
- Cord compression
- Use in threatened abortion

How Does It Work?
Salbutamol works by activating adenyl cyclase, the enzyme which stimulates the production of cyclic adenosine-3′, 5′-monophosphate (cAMP). Increased cAMP levels, leads to the activation of protein kinase A, which inhibits the phosphorylation of myosin and lowers intracellular ionic calcium concentrations, resulting in smooth muscle relaxation.

Salbutamol is used to treat the following conditions:
- Severe bronchospasm
- Uncomplicated premature labor at 22-37 weeks of gestation

- Prophylaxis of exercise-induced bronchospasm
