Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor that is predominantly employed in the treatment of erectile dysfunction and pulmonary hypertension.
Sildenafil is a specific and effective cyclic guanosine monophosphate inhibitor (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) enzyme in the corpus cavernosum that leads to pulmonary vascular smooth muscle cell relaxation. It replenishes impaired erectile function by increasing the blood flow to the penis; hence, Sildenafil needs sexual stimulation to produce its pharmacological effects.

How Does It Work?
Sildenafil is a potent and selective inhibitor of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) enzyme in the corpus cavernosum, which results in the relaxation of pulmonary vascular smooth muscle cells. It restores impaired erectile function by increasing the blood flow to the penis; therefore, sexual stimulation is required for Sildenafil to produce its pharmacological effects.
